Banka, Sep 24: A video allegedly showing a girl being harassed and assaulted by a group of men at Mandar Mountain, a popular tourist destination in Bihar’s Banka district, has surfaced on social media, prompting police to register an FIR against six people.
The video, which reportedly came to the notice of police through the social media cell on September 22, shows several young men surrounding the girl and allegedly abusing, threatening and manhandling her.
One of the men, wearing a white shirt, is allegedly seen holding the girl’s hand, twisting her arm and raising his hand as if to slap her. Another person is seen carrying a stick, while another appears to be holding a slipper.
The social media post accompanying the video reportedly carried the threatening line, “We will commit hooliganism, what can the government uniform do?”
Bounsi police station SHO Pankaj Kumar Jha said the investigation established that the video was recorded at Mandar Mountain.
“The video was found to be of Mandar Mountain,” Jha was quoted as saying.
Police have registered a case against six people under Sections 74, 75, 76 and 3(5), along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000, according to the information available.
The viral video has been taken as evidence and police are working to identify and trace those seen in it.
The Banka incident comes amid reports of similar cases of harassment of girls in Jamui and Samastipur.
In Samastipur, a viral video reportedly showed a minor girl being surrounded and harassed by a group of men. Police subsequently arrested four people.
In Jamui, a girl and her friend were allegedly harassed and assaulted on September 19. Police arrested six accused, while the alleged main accused, Nandan Yadav, was subsequently arrested after being injured in an encounter, according to the information provided.
