Samastipur, Sep 24: Four people have been arrested and an FIR registered after a video allegedly showing a teenage girl being harassed by a group of men in broad daylight surfaced on social media, police said.
The incident reportedly took place in Jagatsinghpur village of Samastipur district, where the girl and a boy travelling together on a village road were allegedly surrounded by a group of men on motorcycles.
According to local reports, the two had stopped on the road to take photographs when the men approached them. The group allegedly abused the girl, pushed her around and harassed her.
“Based on a viral video showing a group of men harassing a girl in broad daylight in the Jagatsinghpur area, four accused have been arrested and an FIR has been filed,” a senior police officer said.
Police said they initiated action immediately after coming across the video.
Local residents reportedly told authorities that the men seen in the video were from Jagatsinghpur village.
JD(U) leader Rajeev Ranjan condemned the incident and warned those involved of strict action.
“If the criminals involved in such crimes don’t take a warning from what action was taken in the Jamui incident, then they will end up behind bars,” he said.
The Samastipur incident comes days after a similar video surfaced from Jamui, where a group of men allegedly harassed two Class 10 students, a boy and a girl.
In that case, three people were arrested after the video circulated on social media and prompted calls for police action. The footage allegedly showed the students being surrounded, with one man pulling the boy away by his shirt collar and another masked man catching the girl as she tried to flee.
