New delhi, Dec 18: BJP leader and Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Thursday came out in defence of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar following the circulation of a video that allegedly showed the chief minister pulling down the hijab of a woman doctor during an official programme.

Addressing the controversy, Singh said there was “nothing wrong” in nitish Kumar’s action and urged critics not to view the incident through a religious lens. His remarks came amid sharp criticism from opposition parties, which have described the incident as inappropriate and humiliating.

Providing context, the Union minister claimed that the chief minister was merely following official procedure while verifying the identity of a beneficiary at a government event. Singh said Kumar acted like a guardian and that no ill intent should be attributed to the incident.

The video has triggered a political row, with opposition leaders demanding accountability, while the ruling establishment has sought to play down the controversy.
