New Delhi, Aug 25: Bihar Information and Public Relations Department Secretary Naveen Kumar represented the state at a national conference of Information and Public Relations Secretaries from states and Union Territories held at Vigyan Bhawan here on Tuesday.
The conference was attended by senior Central Government officials, including Information and Broadcasting Ministry Secretary Chanchal Kumar, along with representatives from various states and UTs.
The meeting focused on making information and public communication systems between the Centre and states more effective, adopting new mechanisms in line with the evolving media landscape and strengthening coordination.
A key area of discussion was strengthening cooperation between the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and Information and Public Relations departments of states and UTs.
Participants also discussed using the training facilities of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) for capacity building and training of Information and Public Relations officers.
The agenda covered the framework for WAVES 2027 and expanding market access through WAVES Bazaar, besides strengthening public service broadcasting infrastructure and increasing state participation in public broadcasting.
The adoption of the India Cine Hub single-window portal for film shooting and live-event permissions was also discussed.
The conference further deliberated on the transition to a digital system through the Press Sewa Portal under the Press and Registration of Periodicals (PRP) Act, 2023.
Other issues included promoting low-cost cinema in rural and underserved areas, implementing accessibility standards in cinema halls and making the WaveX State Ecosystem more effective.
According to the Bihar Information and Public Relations Department, the state’s participation was aimed at “aligning the State’s information and public relations system with emerging technologies, digital media and institutional frameworks at the national level.”
The conference also provided a platform for states and the Centre to exchange experiences and best practices while strengthening institutional capacity and coordination.
The meeting sought to make “information and public communication systems between the Centre and States more effective” and strengthen mutual coordination, officials said.
