Patna, Aug 14: The Bihar government has fixed the interest rate on General Provident Fund (GPF) and certain similar funds at 7.1 per cent per annum for the July-September quarter of the financial year 2026-27. The rate will be applicable from July 1 to September 30, 2026, according to a resolution issued by the state Finance Department. The decision follows the Central Government’s announcement of a 7.1 per cent interest rate on GPF and related funds for the same period.

GPF is a long-term savings scheme for eligible government employees, under which a portion of their salary is contributed to the fund. The accumulated savings earn interest and are paid to the employee in accordance with applicable rules. The latest decision will benefit eligible Bihar government employees and subscribers to the funds covered by the state notification.

The Finance Department’s communication was issued under the signature of Secretary Rachna Patil. The government also said that the interest rate applicable to contributions of officers and employees of the Patna High Court, Bihar Legislative Council and Bihar Legislative Assembly would be notified separately after obtaining the required approvals from the respective authorities.

The GPF interest rate is reviewed and notified periodically. The latest Bihar decision keeps the state’s rate in line with the rate announced by the Centre for the corresponding quarter. For government employees, the interest earned on GPF contributions forms an important component of their long-term savings and retirement-related financial planning.
