Jamui, July 31: The Bihar government has approved the construction of two new reinforced cement concrete (RCC) bridges on National Highway-333A (NH-333A) in Jamui district at a combined cost of around ₹150 crore, a move aimed at improving road connectivity, enhancing safety and ensuring uninterrupted transportation between Khaira and Sono.
The projects involve replacing the existing bridges over the Kiul and Suknar rivers with modern RCC structures capable of handling both light and heavy vehicular traffic. Officials said the upgraded infrastructure is expected to strengthen connectivity with nearby villages while improving traffic flow across the corridor.
The larger of the two projects is the construction of a new RCC bridge over the Kiul River near Nariana Ghat at the 72-km mark of the Khaira-Sono section of NH-333A. The project has been approved at an estimated cost of ₹93.83 crore and will replace the ageing bridge with a modern structure built to current engineering standards.
A second RCC bridge will be constructed over the Suknar River near Mangobandar at the 80-km mark of NH-333A. The project has received administrative approval with an estimated cost of ₹55.96 crore and is expected to significantly improve connectivity along the route.
According to officials, the new bridges will strengthen road links between Khaira, Sono and surrounding villages, making travel safer and more reliable throughout the year. The infrastructure upgrade is also expected to improve access to local markets, educational institutions and essential public services.
The projects are expected to reduce traffic disruptions during the monsoon season, when the existing bridges often face operational challenges. With higher load-bearing capacity and modern engineering design, the new structures are expected to facilitate smoother traffic movement, improve road safety and support the region’s economic and social development.
