New Delhi, Aug. 5 : Bangladesh on Tuesday said it does not want to undermine its relationship with India, even as a proposed media event in New Delhi featuring former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina drew attention and diplomatic sensitivities.

Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed said Dhaka values its ties with New Delhi and stressed that the two neighbouring countries continue to share cordial relations.

Her remarks came after India distanced itself from an event proposed to be held in New Delhi on August 5 to mark the anniversary of Sheikh Hasina’s ouster from power in Bangladesh.

Hasina, who has been staying in New Delhi since 2024, is expected to participate virtually in the programme organised by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club.

The event has attracted attention amid the evolving political situation in Bangladesh and renewed focus on India-Bangladesh relations. Dhaka, however, indicated that it remains committed to maintaining constructive engagement with New Delhi despite differences over recent developments.

India has maintained that the proposed programme is not an official government event, signalling that it has no formal association with the organisers.

Relations between the two countries have remained under close watch since the political transition in Bangladesh last year, with both sides continuing diplomatic engagement on bilateral issues.
