Man electrocuted after touching live railway wire in Guwahati’s Chandmari area

Guwahati, Dec 23: A man was electrocuted to death late Monday night after coming into contact with a high-voltage overhead railway wire in Guwahati’s Chandmari area, police said.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred when the man was attempting to cross over a stationary oil tanker near the railway track.

During the attempt, he accidentally touched a live overhead wire and was electrocuted instantly, dying on the spot.

The incident triggered panic among local residents.

Authorities said the oil tanker narrowly escaped catching fire, averting a potential major disaster in the densely populated area.

Personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Chandmari Police rushed to the spot soon after the incident and secured the area.

The body was recovered, and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be established. Police said efforts are underway to identify the man and complete necessary legal formalities.
