New Delhi, July 30 : The ninth day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament witnessed fresh political confrontation on Thursday after BJP MP Anurag Thakur served a privilege notice against Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

The notice added to the ongoing exchanges between the ruling BJP and the Opposition, even as both Houses of Parliament continued discussions on key legislative business.

In the Lok Sabha, The Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026 was passed after a brief symbolic debate. DMK MP Kanimozhi and BJP MP Sambit Patra participated in the discussion before the House approved the legislation through a voice vote.

Following the passage of the Bill, the Lok Sabha was adjourned and will reconvene on Friday, July 31, at 11 a.m.

Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha continued deliberations on The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, which seeks to strengthen the legal framework to prevent cheating, paper leaks and other unfair practices in public examinations.

The Upper House also witnessed sharp exchanges between the Treasury and Opposition benches during the debate. Members raised concerns over examination reforms, accountability and the overall functioning of educational institutions, making the issue one of the major highlights of the day’s proceedings.

The Monsoon Session has remained politically charged, with frequent confrontations between the government and the Opposition over legislative matters as well as broader political issues. The privilege notice against Rahul Gandhi is expected to further intensify the political debate in the coming days as Parliament continues its scheduled business.
