Ranchi, Mar 21 : Rainfall is expected to continue in multiple districts of Jharkhand, including Ranchi, Gumla, and Simdega, with heavy showers and thunderstorms forecast on March 23, the Meteorological Department said.
Weather conditions changed on Thursday, bringing thunderstorms, hailstorms, and strong winds. Rainfall was recorded in Garhwa, Palamu, and Dhanbad since the morning, while Hazaribagh, Deoghar, Giridih, Khunti, Lohardaga, and Gumla saw showers in the afternoon, officials said.
The Meteorological Department said rainfall will persist in Jharkhand until March 23, with heavy showers expected in several districts. Thunderstorms are also likely in parts of Latehar, Palamu, and Garhwa, it added.
The Meteorological Center in Ranchi said the rainfall is caused by moist air from the Bay of Bengal and wind movement from North India, leading to continuous showers across Jharkhand and nearby districts of Bihar. The impact is expected to last until March 23.
Maximum temperatures have dropped across all districts, officials said. Deoghar recorded a decline of 12 degrees Celsius, while Ranchi’s temperature fell by 2.8 degrees Celsius. Normal weather conditions are expected to return from March 24, they added.
“This rain is neither cyclonic nor pre-monsoon. Whenever and wherever clouds form, it will rain,” Abhishek Anand said.
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert across Jharkhand, warning of wind speeds between 40 and 50 km per hour, accompanied by thunderstorms and rain.
Authorities have advised people to avoid staying in dilapidated houses, refrain from going to fields, and limit unnecessary outdoor movement. Residents have also been urged to unplug electrical appliances as a precaution.
