Jamshedpur, July 20 : Tata Steel has announced plans to invest ₹10,000 crore in its projects across Jharkhand by 2028, with the investment expected to generate around 2,000 direct and indirect jobs. The move is part of the company’s strategy to expand steel production capacity while accelerating the transition to low-carbon steelmaking technologies.

A major portion of the investment, ₹7,000 crore, will be allocated to the deployment of Hisarna and EASyMelt technologies. These advanced technologies are designed to reduce carbon emissions in steel production and support India’s shift towards greener manufacturing.

The company will also invest ₹2,600 crore to expand its Tinplate Division and ₹1,500 crore in the Combi Mill project at Jamshedpur. These projects are expected to strengthen Tata Steel’s manufacturing capabilities while creating additional employment opportunities in the state.

Officials said the Hisarna technology, which has been successfully tested at Tata Steel’s Netherlands facility, enables iron production without conventional coke, sinter or pellet plants. The process is estimated to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 20 percent compared to the traditional blast furnace route.

As part of the initiative, Tata Steel plans to establish a one-million-tonne pilot plant within its existing Jamshedpur operations. The facility will leverage existing infrastructure and contribute to the company’s long-term goal of increasing steelmaking capacity in India from 27.35 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 40 MTPA.

The proposed investments are expected to strengthen Jharkhand’s industrial ecosystem, promote sustainable steel manufacturing and reinforce Tata Steel’s long-term commitment to the state’s economic growth and employment generation.
