Patna, Dec 16 : A severe cold wave is gripping Bihar, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, issuing a seven-day alert. Day and night temperatures are expected to drop further, with some areas likely to face extreme cold after December 22.

Moderate to dense fog is forecast in districts including Patna, East and West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Bhagalpur, and Gaya, especially in mornings and evenings. Daytime temperatures will hover between 24°C and 28°C, while nights may fall to 8°C–14°C.

Authorities have advised elderly, children, and vulnerable groups to take precautions. Winds up to 30 km/h may occur in parts of the state, but dry weather will mostly continue.

The IMD also warned of cold waves and dense fog across several states, including Punjab, Odisha, Assam, and Uttar Pradesh.
