Amaravati, December 15: A 15-year-old Class 10 student collapsed and died while attending classes at a private school in Ramachandrapuram town of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, police said.

The incident occurred around 9.30 am during the second period when the girl, a resident of Pasalapudi village, suddenly lost consciousness and fell from her bench inside the classroom.

School staff immediately rushed her to the Ramachandrapuram Area Government Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. Preliminary medical opinion suggested that cardiac arrest could be the cause of death, officials said.

“The girl was declared brought dead at a local government hospital. Cardiac arrest is said to be the cause of death. A case has been registered and the investigation is on,” Ramachandrapuram Circle Inspector M. Venkata Narayana said.

Police said video footage released in connection with the case shows the girl collapsing from her bench during class hours.

The incident triggered shock and grief among the student’s family members, classmates and school staff. Officials said the exact cause of death would be ascertained after further medical examination.
