Mumbai, November 20: Gangster Anmol Bishnoi, a key accused in the murder of Maharashtra politician Baba Siddique, is being deported from the United States and is expected to arrive in India on Wednesday, Mumbai Police officials said on Tuesday.

Bishnoi, who is also wanted in a case linked to a firing at Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence in April 2024, will land in New Delhi on November 19, an officer familiar with the matter said. India’s Union government will decide which agency will take custody first, as multiple criminal cases are registered against him across the country.

Mumbai Police had earlier submitted two proposals seeking his extradition. Investigators recently learned that Bishnoi, who had been moving between the U.S. and Canada, was detained in Canada before being handed over for deportation. He was reportedly travelling on a Russian passport obtained using forged documents, the official added.

Zeeshan Siddique, son of the slain former minister, said he received an email confirming that Bishnoi had been “removed” from the United States. “This means he is not in the U.S. and should be brought to India and tried for his crimes,” the former legislator told PTI.

Baba Siddique was shot dead on October 12, 2024, outside his son’s office in Mumbai’s Bandra area. Several individuals linked to the criminal network headed by Lawrence Bishnoi — Anmol’s elder brother, who is currently in prison — have been arrested in the murder investigation.
