Jamshedpur, October 30: A five-member central inspection team from Delhi and Ranchi has carried out a surprise inspection at the MGM Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) Blood Bank in Jamshedpur after reports of major irregularities at the Chaibasa Blood Bank.
The team, which included officials from the National Blood Transfusion Council (NBTC) and the Jharkhand State Blood Cell under the National Health Mission (NHM), conducted a detailed audit of the hospital’s blood bank records, data entries, and stock management on Wednesday. The team reportedly scrutinised manual registers, donor lists, and storage records. They also cross-checked the data uploaded on the e-RaktKosh portal, the national digital blood monitoring system with the management.
Inspectors reportedly found delays in updating data and possible mismatches between physical stock and online entries. They directed the hospital management to synchronize all records with the central database and ensure real-time updates.
Meanwhile, the team also examined storage units, refrigeration facilities, and transfusion safety protocols to verify compliance with national standards.
Sources said the experts interacted with the blood bank in-charge, technicians, and the MGM superintendent to seek clarifications on documentation and supply chain processes. A senior NHM official said the exercise was part of a statewide audit to ensure transparency in blood bank operations.
“Any irregularities found will be dealt with strictly. The goal is to ensure every drop of blood collected and transfused is accounted for,” the official said.
The inspection report will soon be submitted to the Union Health Ministry and the Jharkhand Health Department.
Moreover, more surprise inspection are expected across districts amid growing concern over mishandling of bloodstock data, following reports that five thalassemia-affected children in Chaibasa had tested HIV-positive after transfusions earlier this week.
