Jamshedpur, August 19: India’s XLRI – Xavier School of Management said it collected more than 100 units of blood at its annual donation drive, potentially helping over 300 patients in need of transfusions.
The event, held on Aug. 13 at the institute’s Fr. Prabhu Hall, was organised by student committee Team SIGMA-oikos in partnership with Brahmananda Narayana Multispeciality Hospital. Participation rose 25% from last year, with students from XLRI’s flagship HRM, BM, GMP and FPM programmes joining faculty, staff and their families. Many were first-time donors.
“All procedures were conducted under strict medical protocols,” XLRI said, adding that donors received certificates, souvenirs and refreshments in recognition of their contribution. Dr. (Fr.) Donald D’Silva, Dean (Administration & Finance), inaugurated the drive and said the initiative reflected the institution’s commitment to “societal well-being and to nurturing leaders who act for the greater good.”
The blood collected will support cancer patients, emergency cases and underprivileged patients in government and charitable hospitals, according to the organisers. The drive, a long-standing tradition at XLRI, also ties into the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on health and partnerships.
Founded in 1949, XLRI is India’s first management school and is regularly ranked among the country’s top business schools. Guided by Jesuit values, the institution says it seeks to develop leaders who are “professionally competent and socially responsible.”
