Jamshedpur, August 3: Loyola School on Saturday hosted the annual Thomas Paul Science Quiz, drawing participation from 19 schools across the city in a competitive display of scientific knowledge and critical thinking.
The event, held in the school’s Fasy Auditorium, commemorates the legacy of the late Sir Thomas Paul, a revered physics and mathematics teacher at Loyola School who passed away in a road accident. Known for his clarity and commitment to science education, Paul taught senior students from 1984 until his untimely demise.
The competition began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and opening remarks from school dignitaries, including Rector Fr. Mike Raj, former Rector Fr. K.M. Joseph, Principal Fr. Vinod Fernandes, and Vice Principal Mrs. Jayanthi Sheshadri. The event was anchored by Quiz Master Deepak P. Kamath, an alumnus from the 1988 batch and current CEO of Tata Steel Support Services Ltd.
Six teams advanced to the final round after a rigorous preliminary selection. The quiz featured multiple rounds testing participants on advanced scientific concepts, logical reasoning, and current developments in science and technology.
Little Flower School won the competition, while DBMS English School and Jusco School Kadma secured second and third places respectively. Fr. Mike Raj, Fr. Joseph, and Mrs. Sheshadri felicitated Kamath following the quiz. In his closing remarks, Kamath urged students to remain inquisitive and committed to the pursuit of scientific knowledge.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks and the national anthem, capping off a day that celebrated both academic excellence and the enduring legacy of a beloved educator.
