Chittoor, July 22: Senior YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and Punganur MLA Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy on Sunday accused the ruling NDA government in Andhra Pradesh of targeting his family for political reasons, following the arrest of his son and Rajampet MP P.V. Midhun Reddy in connection with a high-profile liquor scam.
Speaking to reporters at his camp office, Reddy described the arrest as part of a “political vendetta” allegedly orchestrated by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Human Resource Development Minister N. Lokesh, and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan.
“My son will come clean from this case and prove the rulers wrong,” Reddy asserted, claiming that Midhun Reddy had no involvement in the alleged scam.
The veteran legislator said the ongoing action against his family was a continuation of previous attempts to malign him. “They tried to implicate me in the Madanapalle files case, and then alleged I encroached forest and government lands — both charges collapsed. Now they’re targeting my son due to his proximity to our party chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy,” he said.
Reddy warned that the case would leave a permanent blot on Naidu’s political legacy, adding that his party would soon recover from the current setbacks. “We will bounce back soon, as people’s support for us continues to grow,” he said.
The NDA government has not officially responded to Reddy’s accusations. Midhun Reddy was arrested earlier this week in connection with alleged irregularities in liquor contracts, a case that opposition leaders have dismissed as politically motivated.
