Inter classes to be discontinued in colleges

Ranchi, June 13: The Jharkhand government has decided to completely discontinue Intermediate (Class 11–12) education in all constituent colleges of the state. A clear directive has been issued stating that no new admissions for Intermediate courses will be allowed in these colleges moving forward. This decision aligns with the Supreme Court and Jharkhand High Court orders, as well as the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP).

Under the new system, these colleges will now offer only undergraduate-level education. The government emphasized that running Intermediate classes in colleges goes against the NEP, and both the Governor and the Secretariat have directed all universities to terminate this practice immediately.

To ensure no disruption for current students, the government has instructed that those currently studying in Class 12 be shifted to nearby government or upgraded +2 schools, or recognised Intermediate colleges. If there are no alternatives within a 5 km radius, colleges may continue these classes temporarily with proper authorization and recognition.

This rule will also apply to students who pass Class 10 in the 2025–26 academic session. They will not be eligible for Intermediate admissions in constituent colleges and must enroll only in approved +2 schools or Intermediate institutions. District officials have been asked to coordinate with colleges and ensure smooth transfers and timely admissions for affected students.
