Ranchi, May 20: Senior bureaucrat and former secretary to the chief minister, Vijay Choubey was arrested by Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) in the liquor scam case.
Earlier, the ACB team questioned Vinay Chaubey at the ACB headquarters. This investigation is being conducted by Jharkhand ACB regarding the allegations of irregularities while being the excise secretary.
At the same time, the current joint excise commissioner Gajendra Singh was also called in this case. Gajendra Singh has also been called with many documents.
Vinay Chaubey was the then Secretary of the excise department. And the liquor scam took place during his tenure.
Significantly, a case was first registered in Economic offence wing (EOW) at Chhattisgarh regarding the liquor scam case, in which the name of Jharkhand came up during the investigation.
After this, Jharkhand ACB had registered a PE (Preliminary Enquiry) after taking permission from the government. After initial investigation in the case, ACB registered a regular FIR. At the same time, the ACB team started questioning IAS Vinay Chaubey today, taking him with them in this connection.
Enforcement Directorate (ED) had also issued summons to Vinay Chaubey and called him to Chhattisgarh for questioning in the matter.
In which Vinay Chaubey had declared himself innocent during the interrogation. Also, in his statement to ED, it was said that the new product policy was implemented after the consent of the government. He has no fault in this. After this, a person from Jharkhand registered a case in EOW (Chhattisgarh Economic Offenses Wing). In which Chhattisgarh liquor syndicate itself heard in Jharkhand.
At the same time, Jharkhand ED started investigating the whole matter after registering this FIR registered in the Economic Offenses Wing as ECIR.
Incidentally, in the liquor scam case, ED raided the hideouts of Vinay Chaubey, Gajendra Singh and many others in October 2024.
