New Delhi, Dec 24: Adani Defence Systems & Technologies Ltd (ADSTL), a subsidiary of the Adani Group, has acquired an 85.8% majority stake in Air Works, India’s leading private aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services company, for ₹400 crore, as reported by The Economics Times.

The acquisition enhances Adani Group’s footprint in both civil and defense aviation, with Air Works providing MRO services for both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. With operations across 35 cities and a workforce of over 1,300 professionals, Air Works is a key player in India’s aviation ecosystem, offering services including heavy maintenance checks, avionics, aircraft painting, and interior refurbishments.

Air Works also holds regulatory approvals from aviation authorities in over 20 countries, reinforcing its leadership in the sector. The company’s defense MRO capabilities are a notable asset, with support provided to the Indian Navy’s P-8I aircraft and the Indian Air Force’s 737 VVIP fleet.

The deal is expected to significantly strengthen Adani’s position in India’s expanding aviation market. Adani Group now operates seven airports and a major MRO facility, making it a formidable player in the country’s aviation sector. Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airports, emphasized the growing importance of the Indian aviation sector, which has become the third-largest in the world. He remarked, “This acquisition aligns with our vision to create an integrated aviation services ecosystem that strengthens India’s aviation infrastructure. Together, we aim to shape the future of India’s skies.”

The acquisition further supports the Indian government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative by boosting domestic MRO capabilities, a crucial element in enhancing India’s self-reliance in the aviation sector.

Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace, described the acquisition as a strategic move to enhance domestic capabilities and deliver full-spectrum MRO services for both commercial and defense aviation. He stated, “This landmark acquisition is a commitment to scaling domestic capabilities and delivering full-spectrum MRO services for commercial and defense sectors.”

With this acquisition, Adani Group solidifies its growing influence in both commercial and defense aviation, aiming to bolster India’s aviation infrastructure and contribute to its competitive positioning in the global aviation market.
