Yadgir, Dec 24: Karnataka’s government has announced a ₹100 crore plan to develop the historical Yadgir Fort under the state’s “One District, One Spot” initiative, aiming to boost tourism in the region.

MLA Channareddy Patil Tunnur revealed that the budget allocation for the project includes ₹33 crore from the MLA grant and ₹67 crore from the state government. Tourism Minister H.K. Patil’s recent visit to the fort spurred the Tourism Department to prepare a detailed blueprint for the initiative.

“The historical fort will be developed at a cost of ₹100 crore under ‘One District, One Spot.’ This investment will help highlight Yadgir’s rich cultural heritage and bring more visitors to the district,” said Tunnur, to The Hindu.

In addition to the fort’s development, a ropeway project at Mailaralingeshwar Temple in Mailapur village has also been approved. The temple, a popular pilgrimage site, attracts devotees from Karnataka and neighboring states such as Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra.

The project, part of the Karnataka Tourism Ropeways Bill, 2024, was greenlit during a cabinet meeting in Kalaburagi. The bill facilitates the construction of 15 ropeways across the state, including the one at Mailaralingeshwar Temple.

“The work would be initiated after the government completes a technical survey with experts,” Tunnur added.

Both projects are seen as important for enhancing Karnataka’s tourism infrastructure and providing economic benefits to the local communities.
