New Delhi, Sep 19: An Air India passenger flight travelling from New Delhi to Kathmandu returned to the national capital on Friday after the aircraft reportedly developed a technical problem while approaching Nepal, according to airport officials.
The flight, operating as AI219, had departed from New Delhi at around 2:42 pm IST and was scheduled to reach Kathmandu at approximately 4:30 pm Nepal time.An official at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport said the aircraft was nearing Nepali airspace when the crew reported a technical issue and decided to turn the aircraft back towards Delhi.
The Airbus A320-214 reportedly changed course over the Lucknow region and subsequently headed back to New Delhi.The exact nature of the technical problem has not been disclosed so far, and officials said further details were awaited.AI219 was carrying passengers, but information regarding the number of people on board was not immediately available.
Tribhuvan International Airport had not issued an official statement on the incident at the time of the report.Further information is expected from the airline or aviation authorities regarding the technical issue and the arrangements for passengers travelling to Kathmandu.
