Ranchi, Sept 18: The Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) has urged the Ranchi traffic authorities to allow three-wheeler goods vehicles engaged in the transportation of essential commodities to operate during the city’s no-entry hours.
A delegation of the Chamber met Ranchi Traffic Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh on Thursday and discussed the difficulties faced by small goods carriers in supplying essential items within the urban area.FJCCI President Tulsi Patel said no-entry restrictions are currently in force from 9 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 7 pm in parts of Ranchi city.
According to the Chamber, the restrictions are creating difficulties for small commercial vehicles involved in regular deliveries.
The Chamber said such vehicles had earlier been permitted to operate during the restricted hours, but the arrangement was not extended after its validity ended.
It also pointed out that restrictions had previously been linked to traffic management during the construction of three flyovers in the city.
With the flyover projects now completed, the Chamber has requested that the authorities reconsider allowing three-wheelers carrying essential commodities to enter restricted areas.
The delegation suggested that if a complete exemption during both periods is not feasible, the authorities could consider allowing the vehicles to operate at least during the 5 pm to 7 pm period.
The Chamber said such an arrangement could help maintain the timely supply of essential goods while allowing traffic authorities to continue managing congestion during peak hours.
Traffic SP Rakesh Singh assured the delegation that the proposal would be examined and an appropriate decision would be taken.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the FJCCI, transport and trade associations and other business organisations.
