Ranchi, Sept 18: Australian Consul-General in Kolkata Bernard Lynch visited the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) in Ranchi on Friday and held discussions with senior officials on potential cooperation in advanced mining technologies.
Lynch was accompanied by Angelina Nair, Senior Research and Visits Officer at the Australian Consulate-General, Kolkata. The delegation met CMPDI Director (Technical/Planning & Design) Ajay Kumar and other senior officials.
The discussions covered a range of areas, including mine planning and digitisation, underground mine communication and safety, coal gasification, research and development, sustainability and decarbonisation, geomatics, and coal and mineral beneficiation.
CMPDI officials highlighted the potential for exchanging technical expertise and knowledge between India and Australia in the mining sector.
Ajay Kumar emphasised the role of government-to-government engagement in facilitating and accelerating cooperation in advanced mining technologies.The meeting is part of broader India-Australia engagement in the mining sector.
A high-level delegation led by the Ministry of Coal had visited Australia in January 2026 to explore opportunities for cooperation with Australia’s Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) industry and in the field of critical minerals.
Officials said the latest engagement could contribute to further exchanges in technology, innovation and expertise aimed at supporting safer, more efficient and sustainable mining practices.
The discussions also underline the growing focus on technological solutions and environmental sustainability in the future development of the mining sector.
