Hazaribagh, Sept 16 : Jharkhand Police have arrested five people for allegedly duping individuals by promising them fake franchises for Tata Power electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, officials said.
The accused were arrested from a rented house in the Baba Path-Hurhuru area of Hazaribagh following a tip-off received by the Superintendent of Police, police said.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Amarjeet Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Sanju Kumar, Praveen Kumar and Raju Kumar.
According to police, the accused allegedly lured people with offers of Tata Power EV charging station franchises and collected substantial amounts of money in the name of security deposits. They allegedly used forged documents and identity cards to establish credibility and operate the scheme from the rented premises.
Acting on the information received on September 15, a special police team was constituted and a raid was conducted at the suspected location, resulting in the arrests, officials said.
Police said 11 mobile phones, a laptop, allegedly forged identity documents and several other suspicious papers were seized during the operation.
Sadar SDPO Rupak Kumar Singh said a case has been registered at Sadar (Bara Bazar) police station under relevant sections of law.
The operation was carried out jointly by personnel from Sadar Police Station and the technical branch, police said.
Investigators are examining the seized electronic devices and documents to establish the extent of the alleged fraud and identify other persons who may be linked to the network.
Further investigation is underway.
