Ranchi, Sept 15: The Election Commission of India has extended the deadline for filing claims and objections under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Jharkhand till September 30, giving eligible citizens additional time to register their names or seek corrections in the draft voters’ list.
The extension is the second and final one for the claims and objections phase. The earlier deadline of September 15 has now been extended by another 15 days.
Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar appealed to all eligible Indian citizens, particularly young voters, whose names do not figure in the draft electoral roll published under the SIR exercise to submit Form 6 along with the required declaration by September 30.
Eligible citizens can submit the forms through the ECI’s online platform or approach their respective Booth Level Officer (BLO).
According to the Chief Electoral Officer, the original deadline for the claims and objections phase was September 4. It was subsequently extended to September 15 following the Election Commission’s decision to provide voters with additional time.
The latest extension was granted after requests were received from various stakeholders and authorities noted the number of Form 6, Form 7 and Form 8 applications being submitted during the ongoing exercise.
The additional window will allow eligible Indian citizens whose names were not included in the draft electoral roll to seek inclusion.
Form 6 can be used by eligible citizens to apply for inclusion of their names in the electoral roll. Form 7 is meant for raising objections or seeking deletion of a name from the voters’ list, while Form 8 can be used for shifting a voter to another polling station or making corrections in electoral roll entries.
Kumar urged eligible citizens to make use of the extended deadline and complete the required process within the stipulated period.
Citizens who have attained the age of 18 years as of October 1, 2026, and whose names are not included in the draft electoral roll have also been asked to submit Form 6 within the revised deadline.
The extension is aimed at ensuring that no eligible citizen is left out of the electoral roll during the SIR exercise, officials said.
