New Delhi, September 8: The Indian Air Force and Japan Air Self-Defense Force will conduct a bilateral air exercise at Jodhpur Air Force Station from September 9 to 22, with the drills aimed at enhancing operational coordination and strengthening defence ties between the two countries.The exercise, titled Veer Guardian 2026, will bring together fighter aircraft and air personnel from both sides for advanced operational training and professional exchanges.
The Indian Air Force will participate with its frontline Light Combat Aircraft Tejas, Su-30MKI and Rafale fighters, while Japan will deploy its F-2A fighter aircraft.During the 14-day exercise, personnel from the two air forces will undertake a range of operational missions and engage in discussions on mission planning and other specialised subjects.
The programme will include mission planning sessions, exchanges among subject-matter experts and professional interactions focusing on engineering and space-security aspects.
The exercise is expected to provide both sides with an opportunity to understand each other’s operational procedures and improve coordination during complex air missions.Beyond flying activities, the professional exchanges are intended to strengthen knowledge-sharing and build greater interoperability between the Indian and Japanese air forces.
The exercise also carries wider strategic significance as India and Japan continue to expand defence cooperation and their broader strategic partnership.
Through regular military exercises and professional engagement, the two countries seek to deepen mutual understanding, improve tactical preparedness and strengthen cooperation in the wider aerospace and security domain.
Veer Guardian 2026 is expected to further reinforce the longstanding friendship and strategic partnership between India and Japan while providing practical experience in conducting coordinated air operations.
