New Delhi, September 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tribute to legendary Assamese singer, composer and lyricist Dr Bhupen Hazarika on the occasion of his 100th birth anniversary, recalling his contribution to Indian music and the cultural identity of the Northeast.
Modi said Hazarika’s distinctive voice and musical work helped carry the cultural spirit of Assam and the Northeast to audiences across the country.The Prime Minister noted that Hazarika used music to give expression to the emotions and thoughts of a large number of people.
His songs, he said, also played a role in bringing people closer and strengthening a sense of cultural connection.
Modi recalled his visit to Guwahati last year, when he participated in the launch of events marking Hazarika’s birth centenary. He said the memories of the occasion remained with him.Describing Hazarika’s contribution as enduring, the Prime Minister said the musician’s life and artistic work would continue to inspire generations to come.
Hazarika, one of Assam’s most celebrated cultural figures, made a lasting contribution to Indian music through his singing, compositions and songwriting.
His work helped bring the cultural traditions and social themes of the Northeast to a wider national audience.The birth centenary celebrations provide an opportunity to revisit his artistic legacy and recognise his contribution to India’s diverse cultural heritage.
