New Delhi, September 7: Coal movement to India’s power sector has increased steadily over the past four days, with daily rake loading reaching 444 on September 6, according to the Ministry of Coal.
The ministry said coal loading for the power sector rose from 370 rakes per day on September 3 to 444 rakes on September 6, marking an overall increase of 74 rakes, or nearly 20 per cent.
The daily figures showed a consistent upward trend, with loading increasing to 387 rakes on September 4 and 413 rakes on September 5 before reaching 444 rakes the following day.The improvement has been supported by increased efforts from Coal India Ltd and its subsidiaries, the Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), as well as captive coal mine operators to strengthen supplies to power plants.
Among the major contributors on September 6, Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd recorded an increase of 12 rakes to reach 111 rakes per day. Captive coal blocks added six rakes, taking their loading to 72 rakes per day.
Bharat Coking Coal Ltd increased its loading by eight rakes to 25, while Northern Coalfields Ltd recorded a three-rake rise to 35 rakes per day. Private washeries and goods sheds also reported a three-rake increase, reaching 42 rakes per day.Central Coalfields Ltd and South Eastern Coalfields Ltd recorded increases of two and one rake respectively, taking their daily loading to 36 and 46 rakes.
Eastern Coalfields Ltd and Western Coalfields Ltd maintained their previous levels of 23 and 29 rakes per day.The ministry said total loading from Coal India sidings reached 305 rakes per day on September 6, an increase of 26 rakes over the previous day.
The government is also closely monitoring thermal power plants where coal stocks are below 25 per cent of the prescribed requirement. Corrective measures are being implemented to improve supplies to such plants.
The Ministry of Coal and Coal India have reiterated their commitment to maintaining the improved supply trend and meeting the fuel requirements of the power sector.
