Ranchi, September 5: The Jharkhand unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a four-day statewide agitation against the registration of cases against students who participated in protests over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.
State BJP president Aditya Sahu said party workers would demonstrate and gherao the offices of Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police in all 24 districts between September 8 and 11.
The agitation will cover six districts each day. The first phase on September 8 will be held in Ranchi, Dumka, Hazaribagh, Giridih, Jamshedpur and Garhwa.
On September 9, demonstrations are scheduled in Koderma, Sahibganj, Bokaro, Palamu, Simdega and Chaibasa. The protests will move to Seraikela-Kharsawan, Pakur, Dhanbad, Gumla, Latehar and Chatra on September 10.The final phase on September 11 will cover Ramgarh, Deoghar, Lohardaga, Khunti, Godda and Jamtara.
The BJP’s announcement follows a memorandum submitted by a party delegation, led by Sahu and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi, to Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar on September 2.
The Opposition party has demanded that cases lodged against students during protests linked to alleged irregularities in examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) be withdrawn.
The BJP has also called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into recruitment examinations conducted in Jharkhand over the past seven years.Sahu has claimed that a large number of students have faced legal action in connection with the protests and alleged that police used force against demonstrators.
He has accused the state government of failing to adequately address the concerns raised by students.These allegations have not been independently verified. The government’s response to the BJP’s latest allegations was not immediately available.
The proposed protests are expected to intensify the political debate surrounding recruitment examinations in Jharkhand. The issue has increasingly involved questions concerning examination procedures, student protests, police action and accountability.
The government’s handling of the BJP’s demands and the conduct of the planned district-level demonstrations are likely to determine whether the controversy remains centred on students’ grievances or develops into a broader political confrontation.
