New Delhi, September 3: A Delhi court on Thursday granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain in a corruption case linked to alleged irregularities in the tendering of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) sewage treatment plant projects.

Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh allowed Jain’s bail application and directed him to furnish a personal bond of ₹2 lakh along with two sureties of the same amount. The court is expected to issue a detailed order explaining the reasons for its decision.Jain had been sent to judicial custody for 14 days on August 19 in connection with the case.

The investigation by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) relates to a tender awarded to Euroteck Environmental Private Limited during Jain’s tenure as Delhi’s Water Minister. The agency has alleged that certain tender conditions were manipulated in a manner that favoured the company.

The ACB has also alleged irregularities in the expansion of the Rohini sewage treatment plant, claiming that its capacity was increased from 15 million gallons per day to 30 MGD without an adequate technical feasibility assessment.

The agency has estimated that the decision contributed to a cost increase of about ₹123 crore.Investigators have further alleged that commissions connected with the tender process were routed through intermediaries and eventually reached the bank accounts of some of the accused. The case was registered in May 2024 following a complaint by the Directorate of Vigilance.

It concerns alleged irregularities, conspiracy and manipulation in the process of awarding contracts for the augmentation and upgrading of sewage treatment plants under the Delhi Jal Board.

The allegations against Jain and others are subject to judicial scrutiny, and the granting of bail does not amount to a finding of innocence. The case will continue through the legal process.
