Jamshedpur, Sept 2: A 24 year old petrol pump employee died in a tragic accident while a vehicle was being refuelled with CNG at a petrol pump in Golmuri on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Tushar Khamri, a resident of Sonari, who was working at the petrol pump.
According to eyewitnesses, a vehicle was being filled with CNG when the CNG pipe suddenly burst. The force of the rupture caused the nozzle attached to the pipe to shoot out at high speed and hit Tushar on the back of his head.
The impact was reportedly so severe that Tushar was thrown several feet away and sustained critical head injuries.
His colleagues immediately rushed him to Tata Main Hospital (TMH) for treatment. However, despite medical efforts, doctors declared him dead during treatment.
CNG pipe suddenly bursts
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred while CNG was being filled into a vehicle at the petrol pump. The sudden rupture of the pipe reportedly produced a loud sound, following which the nozzle was propelled at high speed.
The nozzle struck Tushar in the back of his head, leaving him critically injured. He was immediately taken to TMH, but could not be saved.
Wedding was scheduled in two months
The incident has left Tushar’s family devastated. His relatives reached the hospital after receiving news of his death.
According to family members, Tushar was due to get married in around two months. Preparations for the wedding were reportedly underway, but the tragedy has turned the family’s celebrations into mourning.
Safety arrangements under scrutiny
The accident has also raised questions over safety arrangements at the petrol pump. Questions are being raised about why the CNG pipe burst and whether it had any prior technical defect.
It will also be examined whether all prescribed safety measures were being followed while the vehicle was being refuelled.
Golmuri police begin investigation
Golmuri police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and have started an investigation.
Police are examining the circumstances that led to the pipe rupture and are also looking into the safety arrangements at the petrol pump and the condition of the CNG equipment.
Officials are trying to determine whether the accident was caused by a technical failure or any lapse in safety procedures. The exact cause will become clear after the investigation is completed.
