New Delhi, Sep 1: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for around 23 states for Wednesday, September 2, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds amid an active monsoon spell.
Winds of up to 70-75 kmph are likely in several areas, while Delhi could witness winds of 40-50 kmph along with heavy rain and thunderstorms. The national capital is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 31 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius.
Several districts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are also likely to experience adverse weather. In Uttar Pradesh, rain and thunderstorm alerts have been issued for areas including Meerut, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Agra, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur and Deoria.
In Bihar, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is forecast in several districts, including Patna, Gaya, Siwan, Buxar, Gopalganj, Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia, Kishanganj, Bhagalpur and Munger.
Parts of Jharkhand are also likely to receive rain, with alerts covering Deoghar, Dumka, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Dhanbad, Ramgarh, Khunti, Palamu, Chatra, Jamshedpur and Singhbhum.
Weather activity is also expected to remain intense across eastern and central India. West Bengal may receive moderate to heavy rain, with winds reaching 65-70 kmph in some areas, while heavy showers are forecast in several parts of Odisha.
Rain is also likely in parts of Rajasthan, while thunderstorms have been forecast for several districts of Punjab. Thunderstorm alerts are in place in parts of Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh may witness rain accompanied by strong winds.
The weather system is also likely to affect the Himalayan region. Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir face warnings for heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds, with vulnerable mountainous areas at risk of landslides.
Strong winds from the northwest Bay of Bengal could further intensify weather activity over eastern and central parts of the country.
The IMD has advised people in vulnerable areas to remain cautious, particularly in mountainous regions where heavy rainfall could trigger landslides and other weather-related hazards.
With the monsoon remaining active, adverse weather conditions are expected to stretch from Delhi and the northern plains to eastern India and the Himalayan states on September 2.
