Ranchi, Sept 1 : Jharkhand is set to host a two-day international conference on voter registration and electoral roll management on September 2 and 3 at the National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL) in Ranchi.

The conference, titled “Voter Registration and Voter Registers 2026,” will bring together election officials, legal experts, policymakers, academics and researchers from India and abroad to discuss challenges related to maintaining accurate, updated and inclusive electoral rolls.

The event is significant as Jharkhand is participating in an international research programme associated with the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA). Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar said Jharkhand has been assigned the theme of “Voter Registration and Voter Registers” as part of the research responsibilities given to election offices across states and Union Territories.

Discussions at the conference will focus on how different democracies register voters and maintain electoral rolls while balancing accuracy, accessibility and inclusion. Participants are also expected to discuss the use of technology and digitisation in voter registration, democratic participation and emerging challenges in electoral-roll management.

Officials said one of the key challenges for election administrators is preventing errors while ensuring that eligible voters are not left out of the electoral process. The conference will provide a platform to bring together practical election-management experience and academic research to explore possible solutions and improve existing practices.

The inaugural session will be held on September 2 from 10 am to 11.30 am. Election Commission of India Principal Secretary Arvind Anand is scheduled to attend the event along with senior academics and election experts.

Senior officials and representatives from the Central University of Jharkhand, NUSRL, IIM Ranchi and St Xavier’s College, Ranchi are also expected to participate. These institutions will serve as knowledge partners for the conference.

A book titled “Voter Registration and Voter Registers” and the conference souvenir will also be released during the inaugural session.
