New Delhi, September 1: Air Marshal K.A.A. Sanjeeb AVSM, VSM assumed charge as the Air Officer-in-Charge Maintenance of the Indian Air Force on Tuesday, taking responsibility for one of the key technical leadership positions in the force.
Soon after assuming office, Sanjeeb visited the National War Memorial in New Delhi and paid homage to the armed forces personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
Commissioned into the Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical) branch of the IAF on September 3, 1988, Sanjeeb has more than three decades of experience in aircraft engineering, maintenance and military aviation systems.
During his career, he has worked extensively with aircraft including the IL-76, Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) platforms and Boeing 737-200.
He was part of the Air Headquarters Project Management Team responsible for the induction of the IAF’s first IL-78 Flight Refueller Aircraft in 2003.
As lead engineer and team leader, he played a significant role in the project.Sanjeeb also contributed to the induction and operationalisation of the IAF’s AWACS fleet, strengthening his experience in advanced airborne surveillance and military systems.
Before his latest appointment, he held several senior positions at Air Headquarters, including Director General (Aircraft), Director General (Systems) and Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Maintenance Plans).
An alumnus of the Bangladesh Flight Safety Institute and the Indian Institute of Public Administration, Sanjeeb has also received recognition for his service.
He was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2015 and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2026.Sanjeeb succeeds Air Marshal Sanjeev Ghuratia AVSM, VSM, who retired on August 31 after 39 years of service in the Indian Air Force.
The appointment places Sanjeeb at the helm of the IAF’s maintenance organisation at a time when technical readiness, aircraft availability and effective maintenance remain critical to sustaining operational capability.
