Patna, Aug 30: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across 19 states on Monday, August 31, with Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand among the areas expected to witness adverse weather conditions.
Several districts of Bihar, including Patna, Gaya, Gopalganj, Saran, Siwan, Champaran, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Supaul, Purnia, Kishanganj, Bhagalpur and Munger, are likely to receive heavy rainfall.
Thunderstorms in parts of the state could be accompanied by winds of 50–60 kmph, according to the weather forecast.
In neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, rain and thunderstorm alerts have been issued for Meerut, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Agra, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Sonbhadra and Bijnor, among other areas.
Lucknow is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 32 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius.
Jharkhand is also likely to experience rain and thunderstorms, with Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Ranchi, Deoghar and Hazaribagh among the areas under alert. Winds could reach up to 70 kmph in some parts of the state.
Delhi is also likely to witness heavy rain and thunderstorms, with wind speeds potentially reaching 50–60 kmph. The national capital is expected to record temperatures between 27 and 35 degrees Celsius.
Punjab could receive moderate to heavy rainfall in districts including Amritsar, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Faridkot, Ferozepur and Jalandhar.
In contrast, Rajasthan has no specific rain alert for August 31, although humid and uncomfortable heat is likely to persist in several areas, including Jaipur.
The weather system is also expected to bring heavy rain to parts of Madhya Pradesh, including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Ujjain, Khandwa, Seoni and Shahdol.
West Bengal is likely to witness heavy rainfall in areas including Jalpaiguri, Malda, Kolkata, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Bankura and Durgapur, accompanied by winds of 60–65 kmph in some places.
The IMD has also warned of adverse weather in the Himalayan region. Several areas of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir face rain and thunderstorm alerts, with the possibility of landslides in vulnerable mountainous areas.
In Himachal Pradesh, Shimla, Bilaspur, Solan, Dharamshala, Kangra, Mandi and Sirmaur are under rain and thunderstorm alerts from August 31 to September 2.
Parts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch, Kupwara, Anantnag and Baramulla, have also been placed under weather alerts.
The IMD has further warned of lightning accompanied by thunderstorms across parts of eastern India, prompting residents to exercise caution during severe weather.
