Mumbai, Aug 29: Singer-composer Vishal Mishra has announced plans to organise benefit concerts in flood-hit Assam and Nepal, pledging that every penny raised from the events will be donated towards relief efforts for people affected by the devastating floods.
Mishra made the announcement through an Instagram post, saying he was deeply moved by the situation in the two regions. He said the dates, venues and other details of the concerts would be announced soon.
“My heart is heavy seeing what’s happening. So I have made a decision. I WILL PERFORM A CONCERT IN #NEPAL AND A CONCERT IN #ASSAM,” Mishra wrote.
“EVERY SINGLE PENNY WILL GO TOWARDS FLOOD RELIEF AND THE PEOPLE AFFECTED. I GIVE YOU MY WORD,” he added.
The singer also urged people to stay strong and said he would personally do whatever he could to support those affected.
“Stay strong, will do whatever I can individually, Har Har Mahadev,” he wrote in the caption.
Assam witnessed severe flooding this year, with heavy monsoon rainfall and upstream cloudbursts intensifying the crisis in July and inundating several areas.
Nepal was hit by catastrophic flash floods on August 26, leaving a trail of destruction. The country’s disaster authorities have reported hundreds of deaths, while thousands of people remain out of contact.
Mishra’s proposed concerts are aimed at mobilising support and funds for those affected by the disasters, with the singer committing the entire proceeds to relief.
Known for popular tracks such as “Kaise Hua”, “Pehle Bhi Main” and “Sau Gram Zindagi”, Mishra began his career with a reality show on DD National and later auditioned for Indian Idol.
He made his composing debut with the 2016 Tamil film Devi. He subsequently worked on music for films including Munna Michael, Qarib Qarib Singlle, Race 3, Veere Di Wedding and Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se.
With the dates and venues yet to be announced, Mishra’s initiative is expected to bring together music and fundraising in support of communities recovering from the floods.
