Delhi Health Minister Dr Pankaj Singh visited Indira Gandhi Hospital to take stock of the medical facility’s preparedness and the arrangements available to handle a possible increase in patients.During the inspection, the minister reviewed the hospital’s readiness to deal with influenza-related cases and respiratory illnesses.

The government is also keeping track of the situation across the city and assessing healthcare facilities as part of its ongoing response. The rise in H1N1 infections comes amid increased reports of respiratory illnesses in Delhi. Officials are monitoring the trend to determine whether additional measures may be required if cases continue to increase.

Singh has urged people not to panic over the rising number of cases, while advising them to remain cautious and follow basic precautions to reduce the risk of infection.

H1N1 is a strain of the influenza virus that primarily affects the respiratory system. It can spread between people, particularly through respiratory droplets released during coughing or sneezing.Common symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, headache, body aches, tiredness and weakness.

Some patients may experience breathing difficulties or develop complications requiring medical attention.Health experts generally advise people to maintain hand hygiene, cover their mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing and avoid close contact with people showing symptoms of respiratory infections.People experiencing flu-like symptoms should also take steps to avoid transmitting the infection to others and seek medical advice if their condition worsens.

With the number of reported H1N1 cases continuing to rise, Delhi authorities are maintaining surveillance and reviewing hospital preparedness while encouraging residents to exercise caution without becoming alarmed.
