New Delhi, Aug 27: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across several parts of eastern, central and northeastern India over the next few days, with Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and the northeastern states expected to remain under the influence of active monsoon conditions until Saturday.
The weather department has also predicted heavy rainfall in Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim through Friday.Odisha is likely to witness more intense weather over the weekend, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected at isolated places on Saturday and Sunday.The IMD’s forecast indicates that rainfall activity will remain significant across the region, potentially causing waterlogging and localised flooding in vulnerable areas.
In hilly parts of the Northeast, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, intense rain could also affect road connectivity and increase the risk of landslides in susceptible locations.Meanwhile, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during the next two days.
The weather conditions could affect normal activities in some areas, particularly where rainfall is intense or accompanied by strong winds and lightning.Authorities and residents in areas covered by the forecast have been advised to remain alert and follow updates and warnings issued by the IMD and local administrations, especially during periods of severe weather.
The latest forecast comes as the southwest monsoon continues to remain active over several parts of the country, bringing widespread rainfall to eastern, central and northeastern regions.
