Ranchi, Aug 27: The Jharkhand government has approached Indian and Nepalese authorities to gather information about people from the state who may have been affected by the devastating floods and landslides in Nepal, an official said on Thursday.The state government is seeking details about Jharkhand-origin workers, tourists and other people who may have been in areas affected by the disaster.
Officials have contacted Indian consular authorities in Nepal, the Protector of Emigrants and the Consulate General of Nepal in Kolkata, requesting information on people from Jharkhand who may have been rescued, stranded, injured or reported missing.
The government has asked the authorities to share available details about the whereabouts and condition of such individuals so that their families in Jharkhand can be informed and assistance can be arranged if required.As of Thursday, the state government had not received any confirmed information regarding people from Jharkhand affected by the disaster, the official said.
The move comes as Nepal continues to deal with the aftermath of severe flash floods and landslides that have caused extensive damage in several areas. Rescue and relief operations are underway, with roads and other infrastructure also affected by the disaster.
The Jharkhand government is also working to determine how many people from the state were present in the affected parts of Nepal when the floods and landslides occurred.Officials said the effort is aimed at establishing contact with affected residents and ensuring that their families receive timely information about their safety and whereabouts.
