Dhanbad, Aug 26: The Dhanbad units of the Jharkhand Police Association and Police Men’s Association have warned of a work boycott if Dumri MLA and Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM) chief Jairam Mahato does not apologise within 24 hours over alleged abusive language and threats directed at a police officer.
Association leaders made the announcement at a press conference at the Police Lines in Dhanbad on Tuesday. They alleged that Mahato used abusive and inappropriate language while speaking to Barwadda police station in-charge Ravi Kumar over a WhatsApp call on August 21.
According to the associations, Mahato called the officer from his mobile number and allegedly used objectionable language during the conversation. They further alleged that the MLA later entered the Barwadda police station premises along with his supporters.
The associations claimed that some of the supporters allegedly used inappropriate language inside the station office and disrupted official materials and belongings kept on a table. They also alleged that a nameplate was damaged during the incident.
Association leaders said the alleged incident had caused resentment and concern among police personnel in the area.
The joint secretary of the Police Association, Rajnikant, its vice-president Mehtab Alam and Police Men’s Association president Ritesh Kumar demanded action against the MLA.
The associations have sought cancellation of Mahato’s membership of the Assembly, alleging that he undermined the morale of police officers and used inappropriate language while holding a constitutional post. They also demanded a public apology and registration of a case under appropriate legal provisions.
A written representation has been submitted to the government and administration, the association leaders said, adding that such alleged conduct by any public representative towards police personnel would not be tolerated in future.
The allegations against Mahato could not be independently verified. Further action is expected from the authorities on the complaints submitted by the police associations.
