Dhanbad, Aug 26: A unique road safety awareness campaign was conducted at major intersections across Dhanbad on Tuesday, with school students tying rakhi (sacred threads) on motorists’ wrists and urging them to follow traffic rules.

The campaign aimed to prevent road accidents and create greater awareness and sensitivity among the public towards traffic safety regulations.

The awareness drive was conducted in phases from 9 am to 2 pm at major city intersections, including City Centre Chowk, Puja Talkies, Steelgate, Gol Building and Memco Morh.

As part of the initiative, students from various schools were stationed at busy intersections and tied rakhi to the wrists of two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers as a symbolic appeal to protect their lives by following road safety rules.

Drivers found riding without helmets were stopped by the students, who explained the importance of wearing helmets and following traffic regulations in a polite and friendly manner.

The initiative sought to use the emotional message associated with rakhi to encourage motorists to take greater responsibility for their own safety as well as that of other road users.
