Gurugram, Aug 25: Heavy rain brought several parts of Gurugram to a standstill, leaving roads waterlogged and traffic severely disrupted, with trader and YouTuber Manas Arora finding an unusual way to reach home — riding pillion on a stranger’s motorcycle through the flooded streets.
Arora shared a video of the journey on X, showing a biker carefully manoeuvring through waterlogged roads as he sat behind him. The video highlighted the severity of the waterlogging and the difficulties faced by commuters across the city.
Adding an ironic twist to the incident, Arora recalled his decision to skip buying a car and invest the money in stocks instead.
“Skipped buying a depreciating asset, a car. Put everything in stocks instead,” Arora wrote on X.
He later described how the decision played out during the heavy rain, saying, “Today, a rider rescued me from torrential rain and dropped me to my Rs 300 crore DLF neighbourhood.”
The heavy downpour triggered massive traffic snarls in Gurugram, with key stretches such as Subhash Chowk witnessing major disruption. Several school buses were also stranded, while commuters struggled to navigate submerged roads.
Following a yellow alert for the region, the District Disaster Management Authority issued a work-from-home advisory for private companies amid the worsening traffic and waterlogging situation.
The flooding has once again raised questions over Gurugram’s drainage infrastructure. Despite around Rs 1,400 crore reportedly being spent over the past decade to upgrade the city’s drainage system, heavy rainfall continues to cause severe urban flooding.
For Arora, his decision to invest rather than buy a car acquired an unexpected dimension as he found himself dependent on a stranger’s motorcycle to cross the flooded city and reach his high-end DLF neighbourhood.
The viral video has also drawn attention to Gurugram’s recurring monsoon woes, where even short-distance travel can become a major challenge during heavy rainfall.
