CRPF personnel killed, four family members injured in Rohtas road accident

Sasaram, Aug 23: A 39-year-old CRPF personnel was killed and four members of his family injured after the auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling crashed into a roadside tree in Bihar’s Rohtas district, police said on Sunday.

The accident occurred on Saturday near Nimiyadih-Terka under the Tilouthu police station area, they said.

The deceased was identified as Kanchan Kumar Thakur, who was travelling with his family from Tarachandi towards Maa Tutla Bhawani for darshan when the auto-rickshaw apparently lost balance and rammed into a tree, Station House Officer Shubham Kumar said.

“CRPF personnel Kanchan Kumar Thakur, along with his family members, was travelling in an auto-rickshaw from Tarachandi towards Maa Tutla Bhawani for darshan when the vehicle apparently lost balance and crashed into a tree,” Kumar said.

Thakur sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Sadar Hospital in Sasaram, where he died during treatment, the SHO said.

His wife, child and two other family members were injured in the accident and are undergoing treatment, police said.

According to locals, the auto-rickshaw driver attempted to avert a collision with an SUV coming from the opposite direction, following which the vehicle lost balance and crashed into the tree.

“According to locals, the accident occurred after the autorickshaw driver tried to avert a collision with an SUV coming from the opposite direction. However, when police reached the scene, the SUV was not there,” Kumar said.

The post-mortem examination of Thakur’s body has been completed. Police have also received a written complaint, based on which an FIR will be lodged at the traffic police station, the SHO said.

Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident and the alleged involvement of the unidentified SUV.
