Begusarai (Bihar), Aug 19: A 24-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death after being tied up in a garden in Begusarai, with police suspecting the involvement of his younger brother following a dispute between the two, officials said on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Rahul Kumar. His body was found by locals in a garden on Tuesday night, following which police reached the spot and began an investigation.

Rahul’s hands and legs were found tied, while deep injury marks were visible on his back and other parts of his body, suggesting that he may have been subjected to a violent assault before his death.

Police suspect Rahul’s younger brother may have restrained and assaulted him with sticks and possibly a whip following an argument. Investigators are also examining whether others may have been involved in the alleged assault.

“The preliminary investigation indicated that Rahul may have been killed by his brother following a minor dispute,” Sadar DSP Anand Kumar Pandey said.

The younger brother was reportedly missing from home after the incident, further prompting police to examine his possible involvement. However, officials have not confirmed his role, and the motive and exact sequence of events remain unclear.

“The police were investigating the matter and working to establish the circumstances surrounding the death,” Pandey said.

Locals claimed that the garden where Rahul’s body was found is frequently used for the sale and consumption of drugs and illicit liquor. Rahul was reportedly addicted to substances including cannabis and smack, while his younger brother was allegedly involved in the illegal liquor trade.

Police, however, have not established any connection between these activities and Rahul’s death.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police said further action would be taken after receiving the autopsy report and analysing other evidence collected during the investigation.

Officials stressed that the younger brother’s alleged involvement, the use of weapons and the possible role of associates are all part of the preliminary probe and have not yet been conclusively established.
