UNGC chief Sanda Ojiambo’s India visit focuses on sustainability and SDGs

Mumbai, Aug 16: Ganesh Reddy, Secretary of the UN Global Compact Network India (UN GCNI) and Secretary-cum-CEO of Citizens Foundation, represented the network and hosted United Nations Assistant Secretary-General Sanda Ojiambo during her two-day visit to India.

Ojiambo, who is also CEO and Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), participated in a series of high-level engagements in Mumbai focused on advancing responsible business practices and sustainable development.Reddy presented a memento to Ojiambo on behalf of UN GCNI in recognition of her leadership in promoting sustainability and responsible business practices globally.

The visit brought together representatives from the business, finance, academic and other sectors to discuss ways of accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).Key discussions covered sustainability across global supply chains, the role of Indian micro, small and medium enterprises in responsible business, corporate leadership on sustainability, climate and ESG-related challenges in the banking and financial sectors, and stronger cooperation among businesses, policymakers and civil society.

The programme also featured the India SDG Leadership Forum 2026, providing a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas and explore partnerships aimed at advancing sustainable development.During his interaction with Ojiambo, Reddy discussed measures to deepen cooperation between the UN Global Compact and UN GCNI. The talks also focused on strengthening the value offered to participating companies, expanding collaboration and enhancing engagement between the global organisation and the UN GCNI Governing Board.”It was an honour to represent UN GCNI during Ms. Sanda Ojiambo’s visit to India. Our discussions highlighted the importance of stronger collaboration, greater engagement between the Global Compact and country networks, and creating more value for our members,” Reddy said.

He expressed confidence that the interactions would further strengthen UN GCNI’s efforts to assist businesses in advancing their sustainability goals.The visit reaffirmed UN GCNI’s commitment to working with the UN Global Compact and its stakeholders to promote responsible business, sustainable growth and India’s contribution to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The UN Global Compact Network India is the Indian country network of the United Nations Global Compact. It works with businesses, institutions and other stakeholders to encourage responsible business practices in line with the UN Global Compact’s Ten Principles and the Sustainable Development Goals.
