New Delhi, Aug 12: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has suspended the recognition of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) over concerns regarding its governance and administrative functioning. The Ministry said the action was taken after the federation failed to conduct its elections within the stipulated timeframe.
The decision followed a show-cause notice issued to TTFI, with the ministry finding its response unsatisfactory. To ensure that the sport’s administration continues without disruption, the Ministry has asked the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to put in place an interim mechanism for managing table tennis affairs.
The IOA has been directed to consult the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) while determining the appropriate regulatory arrangement. This may include the formation of an ad-hoc committee to oversee the sport’s administration.
The temporary arrangement is expected to remain in place until a duly constituted governance structure is restored within the TTFI.
The Ministry’s move is aimed at addressing the federation’s governance shortcomings while ensuring continuity in the administration and development of table tennis in India. The suspension will continue until the required governance structure is restored in accordance with the applicable rules
