Patna, Aug 12: Bihar is witnessing humid and sultry weather conditions amid uneven monsoon activity, with several areas receiving limited rainfall even as lightning strikes claimed eight lives in two districts, according to the information available on Wednesday.Five people, including three women, were killed in a lightning strike in Banka, while three labourers died after being struck by lightning in Nawada. Two children were among the eight people reported dead in the incidents.
The lightning-related casualties were reported as thunderstorms affected parts of the state. Authorities have repeatedly advised residents to take precautions during thunderstorms and avoid open areas and isolated trees when lightning activity is observed.Meanwhile, rainfall across Bihar has remained below the expected level.
The state has recorded a significant rainfall deficit, with weather conditions varying considerably from one district to another.The Meteorological Department has forecast the possibility of light rainfall in a few districts, while most other parts of the state are likely to experience generally normal weather conditions.
Madhubani and Samastipur recorded rainfall during the past 24 hours, while Patna remained largely cloudy. Despite the presence of clouds, the capital is expected to continue experiencing humid conditions, with limited chances of sustained or heavy rainfall.
Meteorologists attribute the sultry conditions to high moisture levels in the atmosphere during the monsoon. Moist winds from the Bay of Bengal contribute to increased humidity, and when temperatures rise without sufficient rainfall, people may experience greater discomfort.
Weather conditions may change locally during the day, with the development of clouds potentially bringing light showers or drizzle in some areas, particularly during the evening.Officials have urged people to remain alert during thunderstorms and follow weather advisories, particularly in areas vulnerable to lightning strikes.
