Guwahati, Aug 11: Assam Excise Department officials have seized 123 cartons containing Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and beer during an enforcement operation against suspected illegal liquor transportation, officials said on Tuesday.
The seizure was made during a drive aimed at disrupting unauthorised channels allegedly being used to transport and distribute alcoholic beverages in the state.Following the recovery, excise officials launched an investigation to establish the source of the consignment and determine its intended destination.
The department is also examining the documents and transportation arrangements associated with the seized stock.Officials are working to identify individuals allegedly connected with the movement of the liquor and determine whether the consignment was being transported in violation of Assam’s excise regulations.
The department has intensified enforcement measures to check the illegal movement and sale of liquor through unauthorised networks.Details regarding possible arrests, the origin of the consignment and the route allegedly used for its transportation are expected as the investigation progresses.
The latest seizure is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to curb liquor smuggling and strengthen enforcement against illegal alcohol trade in the state.
